RNA Networks Accelerates Applications up to 25X with MVX 2.5

Memory virtualization now extends server memory and speeds storage performance to address the bottlenecks in today’s data centers

Mountain View, California – July 19, 2010 – Today RNA Networks, Inc., the leader in memory virtualization, announced the availability of RNA MVX™ 2.5, which provides new, expanded ways to accelerate applications. It’s the only virtualization technology to accelerate application performance, achieving speed-ups of up to 25X. This release provides new capabilities that transparently support a broader range of applications to deliver unprecedented performance and manageability improvements.

Data center resources are being challenged by exponentially growing data and increasing server virtualization. These trends are creating huge demands for more memory in servers and more cache memory in storage. Most data centers cannot afford the twin build-out of both storage and servers, but still must find a way to deliver the performance demanded by data-intensive businesses in a way that is cost effective. RNA Network’s memory virtualization provides an immediate and practical solution.

What’s new in MVX version 2.5

MVX 2.5 features two significant capabilities that address the memory-as-a-choke-point problem. The first is the ability to extend server memory, and the second is support for a pure storage service within the private memory cloud. When combined with its ability to accelerate storage, MVX 2.5 addresses a wide range of memory challenges that come from expanding data sets, data center virtualization, and business demands for faster application performance. The result is unprecedented application acceleration that can be achieved both quickly and cost effectively.

How it works

RNA MVX aggregates memory across physical servers into a shared, distributed memory service – a private memory cloud. This memory can then be used by applications to extend server memory and speed up storage. With memory virtualization, applications become less dependent on data center infrastructure to achieve requirements for speed and throughput. IT application managers can dial-up the appropriate server memory capacity and storage performance needed for the application. By allowing applications to operate on large active data sets entirely in RAM, RNA MVX dramatically accelerates applications and delivers new models for creating business value with existing IT infrastructure.

“Data sitting in main memory is as good as it gets,” said Steve Duplessie, founder and Senior Analyst at the Enterprise Strategy Group. “The problem with this historically is that you can only use the memory on a single system or server. With RNA Networks MVX I can use all of the memory in my environment - no matter where it is. The implications are staggering."

Application Acceleration that is Transparent, Flexible and Cost Effective

Overall costs to enable memory virtualization are a fraction of the expense of comparable special purpose acceleration via large-scale servers, additional storage build-out, specialized appliances and server add-ons. Because memory virtualization is based on completely standard components – servers, DRAM, SSDs and server networking – investments in memory virtualization provide the absolute best long-term investment protection of any solution on the market.

“MVX has allowed us to quickly increase the speed and throughput of our infrastructure for our clients’ applications,” said Greg Keller, Technical Principal at R Systems NA, Inc., a service provider for high end commercial and technical computing. “We have been able to consistently increase the capacity of our systems by over 400% with no additional hardware investment, and achieve an order of magnitude reduction in the system's disk I/O load. To achieve the same performance gains by extending servers and storage would have cost as much as ten times more than the MVX solution and would not have provided the same degree of flexibility to meet the needs of many clients with many different applications on the same infrastructure.”

MVX is a software solution and, like other forms of virtualization, is totally transparent to applications. Applications can use the memory cloud resources to extend server memory, accelerate storage, or provide ultra high-speed storage in the compute tier, all without any code changes or application modification. This flexibility to tackle the top memory and storage problems gives application managers new capabilities to manage capacity, QoS and performance. Applications are now less dependent on existing infrastructure to achieve performance goals.

In addition to the expanded capabilities and increased performance, MVX 2.5 includes improved features for installation and deployment. The product can be deployed and operational in minutes to immediately begin delivering acceleration results.

On Tuesday, July 20, 2010, RNA Networks will be hosting a webinar discussing the capabilities of MVX 2.5 and recent customer results. To register for this event, please visit www.rnanetworks.com/webinar.
